Count Your Blessings!

Happy Sunday Everyone:

Moments in time create reflection points. Yesterday was Kim’s birthday (wife), today is my dad’s heavenly birthday, 10/27 is Jack’s birthday, 10/28 is Thomas’s birthday (both my sons). 4 of the most important people in my life all having birthdays within 2.7% of the calendar year, kind of crazy.

Here’s what happened this week, and why I’m writing these today:

  1. It was shared with me through the recipient that one of our top producers took it upon herself to send an email thanking our corporate ops team for being amazing. Not on one deal, but in general, just saying thank you because she was feeling grateful.
  2. Chris Devin (friend and toughest human I know) got me all fired up about the new UCLA coach, now 6-0. This guy took the entire UCLA football team after beating Oregon to band practice on Monday and thanked them all for the energy they brought to the game. He then explained every person that serves the team a meal at school is part of their success and should be thanked accordingly. Tell me you’re not rooting for UCLA!
  3. Jack flew into town to meet us in San Diego for Thomas’s football game and celebrate Kim’s birthday. A few toasts from the boys on what their mom means to them and how grateful they are to have Kim as their mom.

In a moment of both curiosity and gratitude yesterday, I looked up what it meant to “count your blessings”. Here’s what came back “intentionally pausing to recognize what is good, meaningful, and already present in your life, rather than letting your attention stay fixed on what’s missing, stressful, or uncertain”. I mean sign me up for that class please!

Counting your blessings is not about not having challenges or difficulties, it’s about looking through a more grateful lens. Chris Devin being my ultimate example and hero, absolutely battling cancer, fighting daily, but then taking the time to lift me up by sharing what this UCLA coach is doing.

Sitting here in San Diego, thinking about my dad on his birthday, and thinking about all the blessings to count in my life, including these Sunday Thoughts, and you taking the time to read them. It’s a very healthy exercise to count your blessings often. There is so much more to be grateful than not.

I’m hopeful you might sit back for a few moments and consider all the blessings in your life. It will lead to a better day, I promise!
